Firearms Freedom Act in North Carolina!

Breaking news:

The North Carolina grassroots organization pushing to adopt a North Carolina Firearms Freedom Act has broken major ground this month in winning a sponsor for the legislation in the NC State House during the long session of 2010.

As of Saturday, November 21st, 2009, Representative David Lewis of NC House District 53 in Harnett County has agreed to sponsor the act and introduce it to the NC House floor.

What is the Firearms Freedom Act?

The original Firearms Freedom Act was authored by Gary Marbut in Montana, based around the 10th Amendment Constitutional principle that all those powers not specifically enumerated to the Federal Government in the Constitution are reserved to the States, and to the people respectively.  This includes all regulation of firearms that are manufactured and remain in their state of origin.

The Montana bill passed in early 2009, and became law in October 2009.  They were followed by Tennesee who passed the Tennessee Firearms Freedom Act in July of 2009, and their law takes effect in 2010.

There are 10 other states that have already introduced an FFA into their State's Assemblies, along with 18 states (including North Carolina) who are actively working on introducting the Act.

Acquiring Representative Lewis's sponsorship of the Act is a major step forward, and a big victory for all gun owners and enthusiasts in North Carolina.

What does this mean for Vance County gun owners?

If the law is passed in North Carolina, which would require the signature of the Governor, it would mean that weapons and ammunitions manufactured in North Carolina and sold in North Carolina, would not be subject to Federal regulations.  They would only be subject to State law.

This is asserting our 10th Amendment rights with regard to weapons and ammunition.  The primary effect it will have is to work as a hedge to protect us against further Federal infringement of our gun rights.

This can be two fold.  It will attract weapons and ammunition companies to North Carolina.  This alone will bring jobs to North Carolina residents.  It will also work to preserve the rights of gun owners and reloaders against Federal intervention.

In today's world, we can see our rights being taken away by the Federal government and they continue to ignore the Constitution.  We need to take a stand in North Carolina to preserve these Constitional principles for ourselves and our posterity.

What can I do to help?

Between now (that we have won sponsorship in the House) and March 2010 (when the Act hits the floor) we are going to be collecting 5000 petition signatures per county, as well as seeking supporting resolutions from each County's Board of Commissioners.  You can help by printing out copies of the Act itself, as well as the signature petition pages, and collecting signatures for Vance County wherever you go.

Where can I go for more information?
